Validation is one of the most powerful and revealing steps in the franchise discovery process. It is your opportunity to move beyond marketing materials and hear directly from franchise owners about what the business is really like, the wins, the challenges, and everything in between.
Each brand approaches validation differently. Some host group validation sessions or share recorded interviews, while others schedule one on one conversations between candidates and existing owners. The purpose is the same: to help you make a confident and informed decision based on real world insight.
It is also important to know that franchisors are very protective of their franchisees and their time. Many require candidates to complete certain steps before granting access to franchise owners, and it is common for validation calls to be password protected or scheduled through the brand. Reaching out to franchisees on your own before being vetted can reflect poorly on your professionalism and may even delay your process.
Franchisees are independently owned and operated businesses, and while franchisors may help facilitate introductions or schedule group validation calls, they cannot direct what franchisees say or influence the outcome of those conversations. Each franchisee speaks from their own experience, and it is important that you approach these discussions independently and with professionalism. Once you have completed the proper steps in the discovery process, you will be equipped to ask informed and meaningful questions that help you evaluate whether the business aligns with your goals.
